Assemblymember Matt Haney proudly represents District 17 in the California State Assembly. California’s 17th Assembly District encompasses the eastern side of San Francisco.

Prior to his election to the State Assembly in April 2022, Assemblymember Haney served on the San Francisco on the Board of Supervisors where he championed bold initiatives like guaranteeing mental health care for all San Franciscans and commonsense policies like 24-hour bathrooms, new bike lanes, slow streets, and universal tenant protections. He also facilitated over 5,000 units of new housing in his district and oversaw record investments in affordable housing, public safety and economic recovery as Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee.

In the State Assembly, Assemblymember Haney works hard to make housing more affordable and addresses San Francisco's most pressing issues like the opioid crisis and public safety. He champions initiatives to meaningfully confront climate change, access to healthcare, support working families, and safeguard and expand the rights of all communities, especially immigrants, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
